Aug 1    Nature Explorer Program - Animal Tracks
Have you ever wondered about some of the critters and plants that live around us here in Iredell County? If so join us for our new Nature Explorer programs. We will hold one each month starting in May and running through October. Nature Explorers will take a hands-on approach to teaching environmental education to young children ages 5 to 11. Adults are also welcome to participate along with their explorer. Each program will last about 1-1/2 hours, include park exploration, and a take home craft to remember your exploration. Animal Tracks - August 1st, 10am - 11:30am $5 Come out and join us as we explore the Outdoor Education Center for tracks, scat, and other signs of wildlife. Learn to identify native wildlife by its tracks. Select an animal track that you like, and make a plaster cast to take home as a memento.

Your Karma Hoop Dance Elemental Exploration Series: Fire This workshop is designed for the ALL levels; an elemental exploration series with Kati ?Luvly? Simon and assisted by Kelly ?Soulshine? Hart of Prana Love. Heating up the summer with the FIRE element; the element of action and passion. FIRE shines the light of self-knowledge, exposing the true self. We will explore these archetypes of the FIRE element through movement in our bodies. You can expect to have fun and experience playful explorations of new movement, currents or flow in self-expression. You will learn to control and stoke the flames through expressive movement and dance, controlling and guiding the fire for it to be most beneficial. Hoops will be provided for the class if you do not have your own. There will also be a limited amount available for purchase. Aug 15    Tai Chi / Qi Gong Workshop
Qigong practices can be classified as martial, medical, or spiritual. All styles have three things in common: they all involve a posture, (whether moving or stationary), breathing techniques, and mental focus. Some practices increase the Qi; others circulate it, use it to cleanse and heal the body, store it, or emit Qi to help heal others. Practices vary from the soft internal styles such as Tai Chi; to the external, vigorous styles such as Kung Fu. However, the slow gentle movements of most Qigong forms can be easily adapted, even for the physically challenged and can be practiced by all age groups.

Aug 26    Santa?s Elves Workshop
The Senior Center will hold a volunteer workshop on Wed., Aug. 26 at 12:30-4:30 p.m. to start making gift baskets and other homemade items for the grand opening of their Santa?s Gift Shop in November. This may seem like a long time off, but it takes a huge amount of time to prepare for a two month sale. This past Christmas was the best gift shop ever, and we couldn?t have done it without volunteer Barbara Howard, the volunteer elves, and the many donations. Thanks to everyone that contributed. It?s that time again, and we are calling for everyone to be seeking how they can help and what they can donate. You know that the Senior Center?s funding was cut, and it?s not likely to be reinstated, so we have to be creative in ways to raise money to keep our doors open and we need ALL participants to help. One man?s junk is another man?s treasure, so please donate what you can. Also be on the lookout for good items at yard sales and consignment stores, especially Christmas items. We take just about anything. If we can?t use it for the Santa?s Gift Shop, we?ll place it in our Odds & Ends Sale. Items most needed include: Christmas items of any kind, baskets, jewelry and gift items to go in the baskets. All items must be clean and in good condition. No books, broken items, or clothes. Although, hats, gloves, scarves and recipe books are accepted. If you?re talented, consider making something to donate. If you are one of those very creative crafty individuals volunteer as an elf. Donations may be dropped off at the front desk of the Senior Center, 202 N. Church St., Mooresville, M-F 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Donation forms are available for tax purposes.

Your Karma Hoop Dance Elemental Exploration Series: Fire This workshop is designed for the ALL levels; an elemental exploration series with Kati ?Luvly? Simon and assisted by Kelly ?Soulshine? Hart of Prana Love. Heating up the summer with the FIRE element; the element of action and passion. FIRE shines the light of self-knowledge, exposing the true self. We will explore these archetypes of the FIRE element through movement in our bodies. You can expect to have fun and experience playful explorations of new movement, currents or flow in self-expression. You will learn to control and stoke the flames through expressive movement and dance, controlling and guiding the fire for it to be most beneficial.
