Know Your Farms Tour announces its seventh Charlotte Area Farm Tour the weekend of September 27 and 28, 2014 from 12:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. both days and highlights 13 local farms. The Know Your Farms Tour is self-guided, and farms are located in clusters around the Charlotte region for easy touring. To take the tour, purchase a vehicle pass online and print the online map. Load up your vehicle with friends and family, then use the map to plot your course! Bring cash and a cooler to take home great food from the farms you visit.
The tour provides the opportunity to make those important farm-to-fork connections and discover sources for fresh, healthy food in the greater Charlotte community. The fall tour features a diversity of local farms, including fruit and vegetable growers and livestock producers. The vehicle pass ticket, $25 in advance, is good for both days and for everyone in your vehicle.

| The South Iredell Senior Center is looking for volunteers to teach a Living Healthy class and a Living Healthy with Diabetes class, a certification is required. Training session fee is covered through the Sr. Center as well as mileage. Lunch, snacks and materials are included. You will be required to teach at least two workshops (lasting six weeks) per year. The training sessions are Oct. 30, 31, Nov. 3 & 4 from 9 a.m. ? 4 p.m. daily for the Living Healthy & November 13&14 for the Living Healthy with Diabetes. | Town of Mooresville Stormwater Stormwater Ordinance and Utility Fee Information Sessions The Burlington Room, Charles Mack Citizens Center Tuesday October 14 at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday October 29 at 9:00 a.m. In 2011, the Town of Mooresville was issued a new Stormwater Permit from the North Carolina Department of Environment and Natural Resources. On June 23, 1947 the Civic Planning Council was chartered with the intent and purpose of creating a War Memorial Community Center for promoting and supervising recreational facilities in the Town of Mooresville and vicinity. On March 3, 1948 they opened offices with a staff to build a community center as planned with the War Memorial opening in October of that year for the betterment of the recreational needs and concerns of Mooresville and the surrounding area.
Tuesday, October 14, 2014 from 6:00-8:00 pm, the community will celebrate the 65th anniversary of the grand opening of the War Memorial Center. The ceremony begins at 6:00 pm with an open house and refreshments to follow.

| National Falls Prevention Awareness takes place in September. To help promote and increase public awareness on how to prevent and reduce falls among older adults, the Metrolina Falls Prevention Coalition is hosting a Falls Prevention Awareness Expo. This year?s event will be held on Wed., Oct. 15th from 10 a.m. ? 2 p.m. in the Charles Mack Citizens Center, 215 North Main Street, Mooresville. It is estimated that every 15 seconds, an older adult is seen in an Emergency Department for a fall-related injury. Falls are the leading cause of both fatal and nonfatal injuries for those aged 65 and over. The chances of falling and of being seriously injured in a fall increase with age. Come! Be a part of this important event! In addition to a variety of screenings and other services available on this day, lots of material and education will be given on fall prevention strategies, and of course FREE giveaways! | Some local community churches are volunteering to help make a difference in our Mooresville community on Sat., Oct. 25 and the South Iredell Senior Center has been asked to help identify seniors that are in need. If you know of an older adult of low income, or that has a situation that enables them to have the means to obtain needed assistance in getting a task completed, these volunteers can help. Examples of assistance that these volunteers can provide include: trimming hard to reach bushes and shrubs, painting, raking leaves, cleaning out freezers, light repairs, changing light bulbs, cleaning out gutters, etc. Any necessary supplies for jobs like repairs are to be provided by the person requesting the help. All requests for assistance must be submitted by Fri., Sept. 26. Completing an application does not guarantee assistance. The number of jobs taken on will depend on the number of volunteers available. Call the South Iredell Senior Center at 704-662-3337 to complete your application. |

| Saint Patrick's Solas Leighis concert series is pleased to present internationally recognized harpist Sunita Staneslow on Sunday, October 26th at 7:00 pm. Sunita has played in concert halls and pubs from New Zealand to Tel Aviv. A graduate of the Manhattan School of Music, she is classically trained although her passion is traditional music. She specializes in both Jewish and Celtic music and has become widely known for her creative and accessible arrangements for the harp. Sunita now lives with her husband and two children in a small town near Tel Aviv in Israel, and teaches and performs throughout the country. Her performances include a collection of Jewish melodies from around the Mediterranean and Celtic music from the British Isles, woven together with stories of her travels and adventures. Sunita was named one of the top ten Jewish instrumentalists by Moment Magazine and she was a recipient of a 1998 McKnight Foundation Fellowship in recognition of her work with Jewish music. Enjoy an intimate concert that spans the spectrum of human emotions from soulful Jewish melodies to lively Scottish reels to music composed by contemporary harpists. | Let the Seniors Health Insurance Information Program (SHIIP) help you choose a plan. We can also help you apply for Low Income Subsidy Assistance. Volunteer counselors are trained by the NC Dept. of Insurance and provide free individual assistance to people, who are Medicare eligible. Counselors advise about Medicare, Medicare Part D, Low Income Subsidy Assistance, Medicare supplements, Medicare Advantage, long - term care insurance, assist with billing problems and Medicare fraud and abuse. Counselors are available at South Iredell Senior Center and Iredell Senior Center by appointment only. A Hispanic speaking interpreter to assist with these counseling services can be available upon request. For more information or an appointment call 704-873-8568 and ask to speak with Phyllis H.
